PA Votes is our statewide voter engagement and education initiative. For the past five years, we’ve partnered with organizations across Pennsylvania to reach communities that are often overlooked in elections. With support from our national partners, we provide resources, training, and hands-on support to help organizations build their capacity to seamlessly weave nonpartisan voter engagement into their day-to-day work—whether through outreach, events, or community programs.

OUR WORK ON VOTER ENGAGEMENT AND EDUCATION
Our democracy has wide gaps in voter participation tied to race, income, age, and disability. When large portions of a community do not vote, their needs, including the basic need of shelter, are often disregarded.
Community organizations can play a significant role in narrowing these participation gaps.
People are more likely to participate when contacted by someone they know.
Voters respond best to other people — especially friends, neighbors, and community-based agencies that are familiar and trusted.
Effective community organizations work hard to develop trusting relationships with the citizens in their communities. It is through these relationships that they can encourage greater civic participation in policy decisions that impact the lives of those they serve.
Leading up to the 2020 Presidential, 2022 Midterm, and 2024 Presidential Elections, the Housing Alliance worked with community organizations across Pennsylvania to close voter participation gaps through nonpartisan voter engagement and education.
In partnership with Nonprofit Votes, these efforts have engaged nearly 7,000 voters across 2020 and 2022 — and in 2024, through collaboration with the National Low Income Housing Coalition and 37 local partners, 83% of those engaged turned out to vote either by mail or in person.
The PA Votes Initiative, created by the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania, continues to increase voter turnout among low-income voters who otherwise may have been unlikely to vote.

PA Vote 2020 Report
Voting is often the first step to greater civic participation. We need people who have lived the problem to provide input into the policies that are designed to help them.
