“Plot, plan, strategize, organize, and mobilize” – Rapper Killer Mike during an emotional and heartfelt speech at a press conference in Atlanta with Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields
The nation is angry and heartbroken over the unjustifiable deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others. We have failed many of our neighbors. People and communities of color have suffered incredible injustices for decades and horrific acts of violence as a result of structural racism embedded in the fabric of our society. These injustices include our broken systems of housing, health care, education, and public safety which were not built to benefit Black Americans.
Let this moment be our reckoning. We will not continue to turn a blind eye to the struggles of our neighbors nor will we continue to fail to take action to end this systemic violence, hatred, inequity, and apathy. We re-commit ourselves to the mission of the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania to secure a home within reach for every Pennsylvanian. We re-commit ourselves to changing the systems and laws that have allowed these atrocities to keep occurring.
This moment has to be more than words. This moment has to lead to an action and then another until all the moments and actions add up to real change for Black Americans in this country.
We have real work to do. “Plot, plan, strategize, organize, and mobilize.”
Black Lives Matter.
