Webinar: Navigating the End of the Public Health Emergency: What You Need to Know

Presented on April 25th, 2023

It has been over three years since the COVID-19 pandemic began and was declared a public health emergency. Many of the enhanced benefits and changes to rules for critical housing assistance, nutrition assistance, and health insurance are tied to the PHE. With the PHE coming to an end on May 11th, 2023, there are questions and concerns about how these programs are going to return to the pre-pandemic status quo. Join us for a webinar on Tuesday, April 25th from 11 am – 12 pm to stay informed about the changes ahead. Experts from the United State Interagency Council on Homelessness will share how this will impact HUD waivers. We will also hear from the Department of Human Services as they walk us through the changes in eligibility and benefits that come with the unwinding of the PHE. In this informative webinar, you’ll learn about:

•The impact of the public health emergency on HUD waivers, and Medicaid and SNAP benefits as well as what the unwinding means for consumers.
•How the decrease in HUD waivers such as remote verification, suspension of inspections, electronic signatures, and more will impact families and individuals.
•Changes to eligibility requirements for Medicaid and SNAP and how to complete renewals to determine ongoing eligibility and to ensure there are no gaps in coverage
•Information on PENNIE, the state-based exchange, in the event customers do not qualify for continued Medicaid benefits.

  • Joe Savage, Senior Regional Advisor, United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH)
  • HeatherJo Saly, Staff Development Specialist, Department of Human Services
  • Moderator: Gale Schwartz | Associate Director, Policy and Programs | Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania
