May 2024 | Message from Our Executive Director
| May 7th was a GREAT DAY in Harrisburg! The energy from the hustle and bustle of many adults and quite a lot of young people at the Capitol to educate legislators on their priority issues was so very energizing! The Housing Alliance brought together a group of local and statewide organizations to make sure that an increase for PHARE funding (of up to $100 million per year) remains well-positioned to be included in state tax code legislation, press for additional funding for the statewide Whole Home Repair program, and begin to educate legislators on the need to provide funding for homeless prevention via eviction prevention. A special shout-out to a few of our partnering organizations who met with legislators: Action Housing, Bucks-Mont Collaborative, HDC Mid-Atlantic, Human Relations Commission, Lancaster County Housing and Redevelopment Authorities, Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence, The Pittsburgh Foundation, Pocono Mountains United Way, Tenfold, UPMC Health Plan, Westmoreland County Redevelopment Authority See Aaron’s update for more detail on our work and the budget process. And weigh in with your legislators… connecting local community needs and results to the policy proposals that are before them really does matter. ![]() Phyllis Chamberlain Executive Director PS: The Housing Alliance asks your organization to sign on to one or both letters of support. Follow this link to access our letter in support of increasing funding for PHARE and our letter in support of state funding for homeless prevention and eviction prevention. You do not have to sign onto both. |
