January 2025 | Message from Our Executive Director

Many years ago, I was working with a group in Nevada who had secured the assistance of a major celebrity in a video about their work to create housing opportunities in rural communities.

I was impressed with their ability to secure this major celebrity.

But then I watched the brief video, and it was not clear what they wanted viewers to support or even if the housing program knew how to help people. They talked about the need and not at all about the ways to solve the problem.

And I thought what a waste.

It’s been a core belief of mine for quite some time that we start with stories of success to show that we know how to solve the problem of housing affordability and homelessness. And then we are in a better and stronger position to make the case that with an increase in resources or a change in public policy, we can help more households achieve this same type of success. Housing affordability and stability leads to improved quality of life, better educational performance for kids, greater physical and mental health outcomes, etc.

To help us better make our case for increased resources and stronger local programs, tell me what is working for you.

By following this link, you’ll find a set of opportunities to tell the Housing Alliance about the great work you are doing to:
-Prevent Eviction
-Provide Home Repair through Whole Home Repair or another funding source
-Engage Landlords to Rent to Those that They May Not Usually Consider
-Resolve Affordable Rural Housing Challenges
-End Homelessness

We’ll be spotlighting some of what you share with us. And a bonus – hearing from you on the good you do is the best way that I stay motivated and inspired.

So take 2-3 minutes and tell me something good.

In partnership,

Phyllis Chamberlain
