Balancing the Sound Rationale for Smoke-Free Housing with Tenant Concerns

Webinar: Balancing the Sound Rationale for Smoke-Free Housing with Tenant Concerns

With the new HUD rule requiring that all public housing go smoke free, both public housing authorities and other housing providers are adopting and implementing smoke free policies.   Technical assistance is available to housing providers through the Health Promotion Council and other Regional Contractors with funding from the Tobacco Settlement funds through the PA Department of Health.   The purpose of this webinar is to discuss approaches for developing and implementing smoke-free policies that are not only respectful of tenants but also comply with the new policy.  Topics will include the need for a tiered warning system for lease enforcement, the importance of developing partnerships with service providers who offer smoking cessation programs, reasonable accommodation ideas, and the importance of communicating the new policy with empathy.
